I used to not be a morning person. My alarm went off, I hit snooze, opened Instagram, and wondered why I felt unfocused until noon.

The first hour sets the tone for everything that follows. I learned that the hard way.

Why Morning Routines Work

It's not about waking up at 5am or having a perfect sequence. It's about owning your morning instead of starting it reactively.

When the first thing you do is check social media, you start your day consuming other people's content. Your brain is still in a sleep state – receptive, easily overwhelmed, slow to focus on your own thoughts and goals.

A morning routine gives you the first 20–30 minutes for yourself.

What My Routine Actually Looks Like

Five minutes of morning journaling – what's on my mind, what I want to accomplish, what I'm grateful for. A quick microlearning session. Then I set my three most important tasks for the day.

That's 15–20 minutes total. No ice bath, no hour-long workout, no complicated ritual. Just the basics that help me start with intention instead of reaction.

Why One App Beats Many

I used to spread this across three different apps. Journal in one, habits in another, tasks in a third. Switching between apps every morning is friction. Friction is the enemy of consistency.
